Slips, Trips, and Falls - Uneven Ground

After a rainy weekend, standing water, soft ground, and muddy conditions may be present. Take 5 to identify and address hazards before beginning work, and remember to use your eyes as an additional point of contact when moving through changing conditions. Pay particular attention to employee parking areas, travelways, walking surfaces, and equipment parking areas.

  • Remain aware of surface conditions.

  • Use handrails when available.

  • Maintain three points of contact when mounting or dismounting equipment.

  • Take shorter steps on wet surfaces.

  • Keep travelways clear of obstacles and stay alert to changing conditions.

Conducting a Take 5 whenever conditions change is critical to recognizing and avoiding hazards.

If you observe a hazard, notify your supervisor and take appropriate action to prevent an incident. A few minutes spent conducting a thorough Take 5 can help prevent injuries and ensure everyone goes home safely.

Best Practice & Behavior

Submitted By: Daniel Carroll

Location: Cape Canaveral, FL

Recognizing: Andrew Boudriault, Daniel Carroll, and Sharod Nelson

While preparing to inspect the ball mill, the team demonstrated excellent safety practices by using a properly tied-off harness and ladder, maintaining three points of contact, wearing the appropriate PPE, and ensuring safe body positioning throughout the task. Their attention to safety helps protect everyone on site and sets a strong example for others to follow.
